How to Apply

Application 

We look forward to receiving your application.
Due January 20 for Fall Admission

There are two parts of the application process: 
     Submission of an on-line application form
     Submission of supplemental materials

On-Line Application Form

To access the on-line application form, visit Rutgers Graduate and Professional Admissions.

Supplemental Materials

In addition to completing the on-line application, you will need to submit the following:

Transcript  
Mail original, official transcript indicating the completion of a bachelor’s degree with a GPA of 3.0 or higher to:

     Rutgers University–Camden
     Office of Undergraduate and Graduate Admissions

     Camden, NJ 08102


Letters of Recommendation
As part of the online application, you will be asked to provide the email addresses for the two people who will write your letters of recommendation. Once you submit your online application, your recommenders will receive an email from Graduate Admissions requesting that they submit their recommendation letter online. Writing Sample
Your writing sample should represent your strongest work, whether published or more recent. You may submit fiction, creative nonfiction, poetry, or a combination thereof. Prose should be double-spaced; poetry can be single-spaced. See below for page limits. Please do not send more than the specified number of pages.

     Fiction or Creative Nonfiction 
        Twenty to thirty pages of either completed shorter work or an excerpt from longer work
     Poetry
        Ten pages
     Multi-Genre
        Ten to fifteen pages of prose & five pages of poetry

Email your writing sample as a Word or PDF attachment to: mfa@camden.rutgers.edu.
Please put your name and the genre of work in your email subject line.


Personal Statement

Your personal statement should include information about your writing background and goals. 
Email your personal statement as a Word or PDF attachment to: mfa@camden.rutgers.edu.
Please put your name and “personal statement” in your email subject line.


Optional: Graduate Record Examination (GRE)
GRE scores are optional, but encouraged if you wish to be considered for a teaching assistantship. Please note we do not have a minimum cut-off score. GRE scores may be submitted automatically using the Rutgers University code (2790), or you may mail paper scores to:
