The MFA Program is able to offer a number of teaching assistantships to incoming students. These TAships include a stipend ($40,000 in 2025-2026 school year) and tuition remission. Currently, we can offer 7-8 teaching assistantships each year. Unless an applicant indicates otherwise, we assume this arrangement is desired; there is no need to indicate it anywhere in your application.
If a student desires, it is possible to be admitted with partial scholarships that cover tuition for a certain number of credits per year. These students may seek work in other offices on campus, including graduate fellowships. This arrangement is ideal for students who do not wish to teach while in the program; these applicants are typically already living locally and interested in attending the MFA Program part-time. If this sounds like you, please indicate it in your personal statement.
Through a gift from Holman Community Grants, we are pleased to be able to offer two $1900 stipends to graduate students interested in working in the Growing Great Writers program, offered through the Writers House. Read more about the program here. If you are interested in applying to be a teaching artist in this program, please note your interest in your personal statement. (Note: this application process has completed for the 2023-24 academic year).
Other support may be available through the Graduate School. Please see the GSAS Scholarships page for more information.
